FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL
BALBRIGGAN-SWORDS-RUSH-LUSK AREA COMMITTEE MEETING
(Services B – Strategic & General Matters)
THURSDAY 13TH FEBRUARY, 2020
ITEM NO. 5
-AI052533
Question: Councillor B. Dennehy:-
“To ask the Chief Executive to provide clarity to the situation on the
availability of broadband in the entire Knights Gate Estate, Rush given the
conflicting reports in a motion raised at the January B Area meeting item
46. and CRM Representation:R19\6507?”
Reply:
Some houses situated in Knights Gate housing estate in Rush are within the
boundary of the Amber area of the National Broadband Plan (NBP)
Coverage Map. Other houses situated in the same housing estate are
located in the Blue area of the NBP Coverage Map.
Amber area = State intervention area, area where the state will deliver
broadband services under the NBP.
Blue area = Area were commercial operators are delivering broadband
services or have indicated plans to deliver broadband services.

The reason why this housing estate is showing that it is within two different
coverage areas is due to the map being developed before the housing
estate was developed and therefore the houses do not appear on NBP
Coverage Map. This has been brought to the attention of the team
responsible for updating the NBP Coverage Map.
The Broadband Officer has been in regular contact with Open Eir in relation
to the availability of broadband services to the entire Knights Gate Estate.
Open Eir have advised that their current works are near to completion and
that services should be available in April 2020 – providing that there are no
unforeseen delays. The Broadband Officer will continue to engage with
Open Eir to provide updates on services to this area.
