COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL
FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL
BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING
[Services A – Operational Matters]
Thursday, 12th May 2016
ITEM NO. 17
Question: Councillor B. Dennehy
“To ask the Chief Executive to examine and bring forward measures that will help
alleviate the traffic congestion accruing on the road outside both the Educate
Together Primary School and the Lusk Post Primary School on drop off and
collection times as the situation is constantly worsening as the pupil numbers
increase?”
Reply:
Traffic issues at the Lusk ETNS and the Lusk Community College were discussed
at a meeting in March 2016 between Fingal County Council (including an elected
member), the principals of both schools, Dublin Dun-Laoghaire Education and
Training Board (DDLETB). The issue of parking, traffic movement and the
widening of Raheny Lane were discussed at length. The DDLETB advised that the
Department of Education recognises that the management, parking, and safety
of traffic associated with pick up and drop off is better addressed within the
school campus. It is understood that the DDLETB plan to construct a long
avenue around the boundary of both schools that will incorporate set down
areas. This layout should, if used, remove traffic parking from Raheny Lane
allowing safer unrestricted traffic movements on Raheny Lane.
