COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL
FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL
BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING
[Services A – Operational Matters]
Thursday, 10th January 2019
ITEM NO. 46
Motion: Councillor B. Dennehy
“That this Committee calls upon the Chief Executive to allocate the appropriate
funding from Planning Permission F16A/0024 “Kenure Gate” Park Road, Rush
where €102,713.00 was to be paid by the Developer prior to commencement of
works in lieu of provision 0.175ha public open space on site allocated towards
providing public lighting covering the walking/running track in the adjacent
Kenure Park. The lighting will allow both the new residents of Kenure Gate and
residents of Rush maximum usage of the Park all year round and will bring a
further addition in providing safety measures with the additional lighting in the
park. In light of the lack of green space provided by the new development the
compensation of the lighting to the town of Rush is an appropriate
compensation considering the additional usage the new estate will bring to the
Park.”
Report:
The desire for public lighting at Kenure Woods Park has been proposed several
times over the last 3 years. It is an extremely complicated site to provide
additional public lighting columns due to the existing mature trees, and the
undulating and winding nature of the newly installed paths. The Operations
Department recently carried out a feasibility study with approved lighting
contractors to examine this proposal in more detail.
Unfortunately Fingal County Council has been advised that it is not feasible to
install lighting on the new perimeter sections of the new paths, largely due to the
undulating nature of the paths in quite a restricted work area. The Operations
Department is exploring the options of installing a similar path system in
another adjacent area of public open space that will be suitable for the inclusion
of public lighting.
