BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

[Services A – Operational Matters]

Thursday, 14th February 2019

ITEM NO. 69

Pillar Lighting Kenure Park, Rush

Motion: Councillor B. Dennehy

"This Committee calls upon the Chief Executive that due to the inability to install

standard

, to give consideration to the

installation of pillar lights around the walking / running route in Kenure Park

similar to those along Malahide Castle walkway."

Report:

The bollard lighting in Malahide Demesne is purely guidance lighting along the

entrance avenue to guide cars along the avenue. It is not strong enough to

suitably light an area of after-hours active recreation. Where bollard lighting is

used to guide along walkways there is also supplementary standards lights. The

only lighting suitable for safe active recreation is standard lighting columns and it

has previously already been outlined that the installation of this type of lighting

is not suitable on the Kenure Woods Site. The ground disturbance required to

install all types of lighting is the same, whether the lighting is tall or short and the

disturbance on this undulating site would irreversibly damage this valuable

woodland park.
