COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL

FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL

BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

[Services A – Operational Matters]

Thursday, 14th May 2015

ITEM NO. 14

Question: Councillor B. Dennehy

"To ask the Chief Executive to examine the possibility of recessing the metal ladders

on Rush Harbour into the Pier similar to those in Loughshinny failing that a meeting

with local representatives of the fishing Industry be convened to bring forward

alternative solutions that will avoid boats hitting and damaging both the ladders and

boats?”

Reply:

This request has been forwarded to the Operations Department on a number of

occasions. The harbour is constructed of cut stone and is a protected structure. In

Loughshinny where the steps were filled in with concrete a recess was provided for a

replacement ladder. It is not possible to recess the metal ladders into the stone

structure of the harbour in Rush.

The Operations Department is more than happy to meet with the two boat owners

who pay berthing fees for use of the harbour.
