COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL
FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE
(SERVICES B – STRATEGIC AND GENERAL MATTERS)
11th October 2018
ITEM NO. 65
AI044946
Motion: Councillor B. Dennehy
“That the Chief Executive reinstate the previously existing Rush Liaison
Committee in order to enhance / encourage and guide the existing strong
community spirit in Rush and create a focal point / conduit for the various clubs
and organisations in the town of Rush.”
Report:
A review of Local Government structures is underway at national level as part of
a commitment given in Partnership Government. This process has already
produced a report on the Municipal Districts structures outside of the Dublin
region and a report on structures within the Dublin region is expected.
The Department Housing, Planning and Local Government have confirmed that
this review is still ongoing.
The setting up of a Community Information and Liaison Committee in each
electoral area will be considered in the context of the foregoing review once the
report on same has been published.
It should be noted that the Public Participation Network was established to
provide a platform for community, voluntary and environment groups to have a
voice in local decision and policy making at local authority level. The PPN
provides a nominating structure to elect community representatives onto
decision making committees.
There are currently 728 groups registered on the Fingal PPN comprising 572
community groups, 19 environment groups and 137 social inclusion groups.
