COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL
FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL
SWORDS/BALBRIGGAN AREA COMMITTEE MEETING
(Services B – Strategic & General Matters)
THURSDAY 9th MAY 2019
ITEM NO. 62
Motion: Councillors B. Dennehy, R. O'Donoghue & B. Martin
“That the Chief Executive provide a report on the progress of the agreed
acquisition process for the proposed new school site required for St Joseph’s
Secondary School, Rush, while at the same time taking into account the strong
support from this committee that all measures possible are carried out to fast
track the process of the site delivery due to the current chronic pressure on
pupil numbers in the school, a situation which is due to rapidly escalate in the
near future.”
Report:
The Department of Education & Skills is engaging with the Council and is
cognisant of the school’s current accommodation constraints and both sets of
officials are working to progress matters as quickly as possible. It is difficult to
indicate a timeline for the completion of the acquisition of a site for the school in
question as it is dependent on the complexity of the conveyancing process. Once
the site has been acquired, the project can progress to architectural planning.
The Fingal County Council Compulsory Purchase (Park Road Upgrade) Order
2018 which provides for the land requirements for the proposed road upgrade
and would facilitate the school development has been confirmed by the Council.
