Speed Ramps Brookford Estate, Rush

COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL

FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL

BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

[Services A – Operational Matters]

Thursday, 14th September, 2017

ITEM NO. 37

Question: Councillor B. Dennehy

"To ask the Chief Executive to provide speed ramps in Brookford Estate Rush in

order to slow down the traffic within the Estate?”

Reply:

Traffic-calming ramps are typically installed on the main access roads into large

residential estates and particularly on residential roads which are destination

routes, through routes or ‘rat-runs’. Their purpose is to deter unnecessary

traffic use by traffic users from outside of the particular residential area.

The Brookford Estate in rush is not a destination route or rat run and the roads

within the estate are primarily used by residents of Brookford. It is not proposed

to place ramps in the Brookford Estate.

Issues of speeding or dangerous driving are an enforcement issue for An Garda

Síochána
