UPDATE ON SEWAGE TREATMENT ISSUE ADJACENT TO THE SOUTH BEACH RUSH

COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL

FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL

BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

(Services B – Strategic & General Matters)

THURSDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER, 2018

ITEM NO. 16

AI043630

Question: Councillor B. Dennehy

"To ask the Chief Executive to outline the progress of the case reported

previously of a property adjacent to the Golf Course, Rush where the

Sewage Treatment process is not up to standard?”

Reply:

On foot of pollution reports, the Water Pollution Control Section carried

out a number of investigations at two chalet type houses located to the

rear of a dwelling on Golf Road, Rush. The domestic wastewater

treatment system at the properties consisted of an open wastewater

channel linked to a cesspool. An enforcement notice was served on the

landlord of the property in May 2018 directing him to upgrade the

domestic wastewater treatment system serving the two occupied

dwellings at the location. Since the notice was served, improvement works

were carried out on the system – the cesspool and opened channel have

been filled and a new percolation area installed. However, further

improvement works are required to ensure that no further pollution

occurs in the future.
